SNMP, the Simple Network Management Protocol, is one of the most widely deployed protocols for monitoring infrastructure. Devices expose values (such as temperature, load or status) that a management system polls, and they can send traps when something changes.
Because SNMP is supported by a vast range of existing and legacy equipment, it is a practical foundation for monitoring a mixed, multi-vendor estate without replacing hardware.
